Let’s speak frankly about women and sex. Let’s start by recognizing that the term women encompasses more than just skinny, straight, white women.

The Bird and The Bees: Unabridged,” a new play, uses comedy, dance, and music to broach the, at once over explored and under examined, topic of female sexuality.

Building on predecessor plays such as “The Vagina Monologues” and “In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play),” directors Maggie Keenan-Bolger and Rachel Sullivan worked with a cast of 19 to compose brief sketches addressing both the humorous and serious elements of modern femininity, including gems about visiting the gynecologist’s office and the virtues of foreplay.

For women and anyone that cares about a woman, “The Birds and The Bees: Unabridged” is playing through Saturday, March 30th, at Speyer Hall at University Settlement.
