Speakeasy Dollhouse: The Brothers Booth & The Bloody Beginning
Speakeasy Dollhouse is a series of immersive jazz and burlesque theatrical events developed by Cynthia von Buhler. Dressing up isn’t required but it is encouraged.
The first production in the series, The Bloody Beginning, explores a murder mystery involving the owner of a Prohibition Era speakeasy in New York City. The performance takes place at a secret location and patrons are told where to go only after buying tickets.
The second (and new) production, The Brothers Booth, is set in 1919 and inspired by the rivalry between Edwin Booth, one of the greatest stage actors of the 19th century, and his brother John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated President Lincoln. It takes place at the historic Player’s Club (founded in 1888 by Edwin Booth and Mark Twain, among others).
As is typical for immersive events such as these, the production is a combination of live performance and self-directed exploring through rooms and secret passageways. The tickets for the Speakeasy Dollhouse series range from $55-$125. The expensive tickets get you a special secret entrance (no waiting in line) and access to VIP-only rooms.
