Summer Comedy Check-In
Elise teaches Nicole about what makes comedy criticism tick. Then Elise looks at Colin Quinn’s comedy-theater show The New York Story from the stand-up lens and Nicole reviews the same show as theater.
We discuss Trevor Noah’s ascension as the new host of The Daily Show and see his recent performance at Caroline’s. From the topical to the tropical, we sit outside in a summer storm and watch comedy under the trees at Laughter in the Park. Nicole visits a venue that’s new to her, QED in Queens, and sees comedians Lynn Bixenspan and Lane Moore perform there.
We make recommendations for upcoming comedy shows and events around town in August, September, and October. And if you’re a planner a keep an eye out soon for the headliner announcements for the New York Comedy Festival in November.
We also look over the comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe this year and highlight some old favorites and mention some up-and-comers we want to see.
