American Geeks, German Freaks, and The King and I
This week we spotlight the world of geek theater. From Vampire Cowboys and their wonderful use of Sheldon Best in Six Rounds of Vengeance, to the Dragonball Z-y universe of Kapow-i GoGo, to Romeo and Juliet and Zombies (R&J&Z), we’ve gotten quite a taste of the high-flying, bloody, raucous, and colorful world of geek theater.
With Nicole spending a week in Berlin, she gives a little rundown on the contemporary German theater scene which is just as kooky as the geeks. Octopuses, capitalism, tugboats, and a new Twin Peaks inspired project were all on the menu. Because of the many names and places mentioned, we’ve detailed all the companies below in case you ever want to check them out or keep an eye out if they tour to America.
And for all the unusual work we discuss, we also visited the classic in The King and I at Lincoln Center (1:27) and the unexpectedly conventional play Buzzer (17:47) at The Public.
