Playwrights Horizons

Founded by Robert Moss in 1971, Playwrights Horizons is dedicated to promoting new work by American theater artists.

Some of the most notable plays to come out of New York City in the last 40 years premiered at Playwrights Horizons, including Pulitzer, Tony, and Obie award winners. As an institution it received a special Drama Desk Award in 2008 for “ongoing support to generations of theater artists and undiminished commitment to producing new work” – a good summary of its tremendous contribution to New York’s theatrical landscape.

Playwrights Horizons also runs a theater school for nearly 150 undergraduates, in affiliation with NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
