FRIGID: Óscar Tango Bravo – Location, Tickets, Reviews
Óscar Tango Bravo is a series of absurdist comedy sketches with an overarching storyline about conspiracy theories. It is part of the 2014 FRIGID New York theater festival. We might be missing the background knowledge in conspiracy theories and training in absurdist technique necessary to appreciate this piece. There were moments of levity that we enjoyed but as a whole we did not understand it. We laughed but it was probably for the wrong reasons.
Most of the audience seemed to share our reaction but it was by no means the universal view, either at the performance we attended or amongst critics. Martin Denton, the respected indie theater booster and founder of NY Theater Now, called it “a hoot: theater for the thinking individual” and named it his favorite work by playwright Ed Malin.
