Early Buzz: Stop Hitting Yourself

Founded in 1995, Rude Mechanicals (or Rude Mechs) is an innovative theater collective based in Austin, Texas. LCT3, the wing of Lincoln Center Theater committed to producing work by new artists, commissioned Rude Mechs to create a new work premiering in New York City in January 2014. That production, Stop Hitting Yourself, had a sold-out workshop series in Austin earlier this year and there is lots of buzz surrounding the Lincoln Center premiere. Critically, the tickets are only $20 and, if the past is any indicator, they will sell out quickly.

Stop Hitting Yourself is described by LCT3 as:

Part Pygmalion, part Busby Berkeley, part self-help lexicon, Stop Hitting Yourself borrows from the plots of 1930’s musicals to dig deep into the contemporary conservative dilemma: how to honor steely individualism without disavowing the virtue of charity — all the while tap-dancing around a queso fountain.
