Ice Factory 2013: Red Wednesday – Location, Tickets, Reviews
In the thick of this year’s OBIE award-winning Ice Factory theater festival, Red Wednesday hits hard and fast.
The play opens with a few college-aged friends discussing unrest in the Middle East, which prompts a young woman’s memories of her earlier life in Iran. Inspired by the true family history of writer and director Sanaz Ghajarrahimi, the show is in essence a flashback to an Iranian family’s experience in a time of rebellion: the sacrifice, the victory, and the constant struggle to do right by family and culture.
Red Wednesday comes from Built for Collapse, an award-winning theater company known for multi-disciplinary work. True to form, Red Wednesday is an absurdist, multimedia display, including interpretive body movement set to modern music, singing mixed with Muslim prayer, and the constant presence of projections on several hanging sheets.
Red Wednesday is a dramatic play, recommended for trying something new.
