The Jacksonian
Official Opening Update
The Jacksonian, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Beth Henley, is now debuting in New York for a limited run through December 22 at Theatre Row. Although it has been one of the most anticipated shows among critics and theater lovers, the play has received divided reviews. TheaterMania said “you’ll be glad to forget it, which thankfully, you will,” while New York Times praised Henley’s daring conception and said “’The Jacksonian’ makes wallowing in morbidity a tasty, toxic pleasure.”

The Jacksonian is set in 1964 at a seedy hotel in Jackson, Mississippi, the hometown of its author, celebrated playwright Beth Henley. The story revolves around a murder investigation. Though steeped in the personal stories of its characters, the play is also a political and social commentary on the time and place of its setting. It premiered at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles last year and was well-received. This Fall The New Group brings its West Coast director, Robert Falls, and all-star cast members, Ed Harris, Glenne Headly, Amy Madigan and Bill Pullman, to New York.
