And Miles to Go – Location, Tickets, Reviews

Chad Beckim’s And Miles to Go is a poignant production set in a small classroom in Urban Sanctuary High, a fictional New York City public school. Randy Danson portrays Adele Priam, the play’s powerful and outspoken protagonist.
When the Panel for Educational Policy threatens to close down Urban Sanctuary due to the school’s failing grades, Ms. Priam — a passionate, forthright teacher with forty years of teaching at the school under her belt — expresses her outrage at a gathering to discuss the state of the ailing school. The mic is cut in the middle of her scandalous speech and the next morning at school she is shunned by the school’s administration. Much to Ms. Priam’s dismay, she finds herself stuck with three of the school’s most troublesome students as “punishment” for her indiscretion.
Then the school and its community are forever transformed by a jarring, unforeseen event.
And Miles to Go is an eye-opening tale about the fragility of life, the importance of hope, and the meaning of legacy. Though peppered with bits of bawdy relief, the play well reflects the harsh, sensitive truth behind the teetering modern public education system–an edifice collapsing under the weight of a jaded, dispirited administration, a crumbling foundation, and a student population brimming with overlooked and misunderstood kids.
Recommended if. . .
You applaud blunt, tenacious whistleblowers and people who aren’t afraid to stick it to “The Man”;
You appreciate to-the-point, realistic portrayals of teachers in the troubled modern education system;
You sorely disapprove of band-aid solutions to longstanding issues;
You are not afraid to witness a shocking scene inspired by true events; and,
You don’t mind spending some time back in a high school classroom.

NEWS & REVIEWS
TimeOut
“Chad Beckim’s dramatic sketch And Miles to Go may make you sob, but as its emotional stakes intensify, you might start to miss the piece’s early phase—when it actually threatened to make you think. Miles starts as a farce about teachers and their embattled position on the front lines of economic depredation.”
