NYCFringe: Listen… Can You Hear Me Now? – Location, Tickets, Reviews
Listen… Can You Hear Me Now? is an autobiographical, one woman show by Gloria Rosen about her life growing up as a hearing child in a deaf home.
Gloria is not only a fantastic storyteller but also able to embody herself as a character. In the show, she describes her parents and her childhood, and elaborates on the frustration that came with constantly serving as her parents’ translator and having her own needs put second. In that world she cannot have her own options or opinions or feelings, because as her mother said, “You can hear. What do you have to be sad or angry about?” Quite a few things, it turns out.
Gloria reveals a lifetime of sexism, molestation, and overbearing parents. She does a masterful job of introducing the audience to a world alien to any hearing person, yet also delivering a performance and story that speaks from the heart.

REVIEWS
Broadway Spotted
The story was just about as heartfelt as you can get. The whole thing just felt so real and raw – because it was! There’s something special about autobiographical theatre that I just love.
Curtain Up
Funny, serious, frustrating, bewildering, wise-You can pick your own adjective to describe her show, but I would go with wise. Far from a vanity show, Rosen points out how she gained wisdom by living with her deaf parents and being their “ears” and more.
NY Theatre
Gloria is a delightful performer and storyteller. She opens up the door to her past and invites her audience on a personal and intimate journey with comical, heartwarming and sometimes upsetting tales of growing up with two parents who couldn’t “listen”.
