It’s Springtime in the Theater

Show-poster

This week we had the first major Spring opening on Broadway (Cinderella, we won’t be covering that here), new openings by burgeoning young playwrights Rajiv Joseph (The North Pool at Vineyard Theatre, sadly a pass) and Amy Herzog (Belleville at New York Theatre Workshop, more on this below), a Pulitzer Prize winning revival (Talley’s Folly, an old-fashioned romantic comedy, well received), and a classic clowning romp (Old Hats with Bill Irwin, already thrice extended).

Ms. Herzog is a major new talent on a serious winning streak. Her plays “4000 Miles” and “The Great God Pan” were fantastic at Lincoln Center and Playwrights Horizons, respectively. Belleville is a self-labeled Hitchcockian drama about a young American couple in Paris. It’s a great chance to see young artists making intense, intriguing, acclaimed theater.

P.S. Hope you got tickets for last week’s recommendation “The Revisionist.” The entire run in now SOLD OUT.
