FringeNYC: Ex Machina – Location, Tickets, Reviews
Set in a smartphone factory where suicides and unions are forbidden, the dystopian play Ex Machina follows Mason, a despondent veteran worker, and his new roommate, the idealist newcomer, Loomis. The two men must learn to get along, while Mason’s anarchist ex-girlfriend encourages them to finally rebel against the system.
Ex Machina is a funny dark comedy that touches on very poignant issues, but ultimately fails reach its full potential. It doesn’t utilize its 70 minutes — a short run from the get go — to allow the plot and message to build more plausibly, and the performances would have benefited from a little more subtlety.

REVIEWS
Theatre is Easy
A darkly humorous and magical journey through the perils of smartphone manufacturing
Time Out
[I]n splitting the difference between agitprop and heartfelt comedy, the play delivers neither a useful lesson nor an emotional payoff. For all its hard work, the show should earn more.
