Early Buzz: King Lear
A new production of King Lear, starring three-time Tony Award winner Frank Langella, is making its New York debut at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) this winter after a world premiere at the Chichester Festival Theatre last fall. British critics were enthusiastic of the show. The Daily Express said “Langella is extraordinary and following his triumph in Frost/Nixon, delivers the kind of performance that blinds us to all other recent Lears.” The Guardian also praised Langella’s performance and called the production “a refreshing antidote” to recent conceptual productions of the Bard’s masterpiece.
The show began its limited run on January 7th, and the official opening is on January 15, 2014.
