Early Buzz: Appropriate
Following a world premiere at the Humana Festival of New American Plays last spring, and successful runs at both the Victory Garden Theater in Chicago and the Woolly Mammoth Theatre in Washington D.C., the comic drama Appropriate is coming to New York City this February. Written by Residency Five member Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, it will be directed by Liesl Tommy.
The play follows the estranged members of the Lafayette family who return to their hometown in rural Arkansas, to settle the accounts of their recently deceased patriarch. A surprising visitor and a disturbing discovery lead to a flurry of heated confrontations and unleash a wave of repressed history and regret.
As part of the Signature Ticket Initiative, tickets for Appropriate are only $25. If you’re interested in seeing it, we suggest you buy your tickets soon, as many performance days are close to selling out.
