Coil 14
COIL, produced by Performance Space 122 (PS 122), is an annual theater festival in New York City featuring contemporary performance artists. Celebrating its 9th anniversary, this year COIL is focused on New York-based artists with nine theatrical productions at venues across the City, plus a “Red + White Party” curated by Elevator Repair Service and discussion panels called “SPAN” co-produced by PS122 and New York University Tisch School of the Arts’ Department of Art and Public Policy.

Written by Frank Boudreaux and directed by Reid Farrington, Tyson vs. Ali is “[a] volatile combination of dance, theater, and new-media stagecraft” in which “the palpable emotional and physical experience of boxing is examined through the larger-than-life personas of Iron Mike and The Greatest.”

Muazzez is a simply staged one-man show adapted by Mac Wellman from his own collection of short stories, A Chronicle Of The Madness Of Small Worlds, Wellman’s long-time collaborator Steve Mellor performs.

Heather Kravas’ a quartet incorporates ballet and folk dance to explore the possible outcomes of individuals dancing together.

An Evening with William Shatner Asterisk
An Evening with William Shatner Asterisk from Phil Soltanoff is hybrid live action and video performance incorporating footage of William Shatner as Captain Kirk from the original Star Trek series.

House of Dance by Tina Satter is a dance performance about a dance competition. It had a successful run in the Fall of 2013 in New York and the New York Times named it a critics pick.

CATCH 60: CATCH Takes the Decade
A one night only performance celebrating the 10th anniversary of CATCH, an experimental art/dance/performance series.

Bronx Gothic is a solo performance by Okwui Okpokwasili, set in the sex-saturated 1980s about two 11-year old girls passing secret notes, self-described as ” dark and intensely physical.”
Location: Danspace Project
The Angola Project is a trilogy of solo performances by Jeremy Xido about his journey attempting to finance a film. In the performance Xido “construct[s] a movie in real time from fragments of film and narrative, only to have it crumble into disarray.” The complete trilogy is three hours plus a one hour dinner break.

From Ireland-based theater company Brokentalkers, Have I No Mouth is a real-life mother and son’s attempt to piece together the truth in the aftermath of a family tragedy.
