Clubbed Thumb Announces Lineup for 2014 Summerworks Festival
Clubbed Thumb, a theater group dedicated to “funny, strange, and provocative new plays by living American writers,” announced the lineup for the 19th season of Summerworks — an annual festival of new plays. Each play will run for nine performances between May 30, 2014 and July 5, 2014.
The productions are:
41-Derful, written and directed by Jenny Schwartz (God’s Ear, Cause for Alarm, and Iowa a musical play written with musician Todd Almond premiering as part of the 2014-15 season at Playwrights Horizons), in it “two jaded co-workers discover their own version of civic responsibly in the shadow of a disgraced politician’s public meltdown.”
I’m Pretty Fucked Up, written by Ariel Stess (Prowlers in the Night, Mother Milk) and directed by Kip Fagan (How to Make Friends and Then Kill Them, Death for Sydney Black, The Revisionist), in it “three teenagers ditch school to drive through the mountains of New Mexico, while back on campus an addled security guard faces his demons.”
16 Words or Less, written by Peggy Stafford (Motel Cherry) and directed by Portia Krieger (Game Play, Baby Screams Miracle, Too Much Too Soon), in it “a lone and overly-helpful flower shop clerk tries to contain the challenges of her customers’ lives, but can’t do the same for herself.”
In addition to these full productions, Summerworks also features free readings and a free opening night event created by The Falcons, a group of eight early-career writers in residence at Clubbed Thumb.
All performances take place at The Wild Project, 195 East 3rd Street (between Avenue A and Avenue B), New York City.
Festival Passes for $45 are on sale now and grant entry to all three shows (click here to purchase). Single tickets are $18 and will be available for sale starting April 15, 2014.
