The Winslow Boy – Location, Tickets, Reviews
Presented by Roundabout Theatre Company, The Winslow Boy is a revival of Terence Rattigan’s classic play based on a true story from the early 1900s in London. It is directed by Lindsay Posner, who helmed an earlier successful run in London, and features Tony Award winner Roger Rees, Tony Award nominee Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Michael Cumpsty.
In the play, 14-year-old Ronnie Winslow is expelled from Osborne Naval College for an alleged theft. Believing that Ronnie is innocent, Arthur and Catherine (Ronnie’s father and suffragist sister) launch a petition to clear the boy’s name with the help of Sir Robert, the most sought after barrister in London. In their two-year quest to “let right be done”, the family as well as Sir Robert suffer personally and professionally, privately and publicly.
The characters are vividly written and strongly portrayed but the pace of this play is slow and steady. Clocking in at just under three hours, “it takes an especially engaged audience to latch onto all of the plot points and relationships that evolve onstage via Rattigan’s beautifully crafted but occasionally dry dialogue” notes TheaterMania.

The desire for “right” (not to be confused with “justice”) to prevail is the engine that drives Terence Rattigan’s 1946 play The Winslow Boy. Unfortunately, it’s an engine that runs on fumes.
