A Raisin in the Sun with Denzel Washington – Location & Tickets

We don’t want to be alarmist but we do want to inform you that tickets have gone on sale for Denzel Washington in A Raisin in the Sun coming to New York City. 

Now you might be thinking that sounds interesting and at some point in the future I’d like to get tickets to that. Don’t delay. 

Three years ago Denzel Washington performed in August Wilson’s play Fences in New York City. I (Lindsay, Maxamoo’s Founder) heard about Fences and thought (like you are now) that sounds great, I want to see that.

Performances of Fences started and word spread through New York’s secret theater channels: the show was indeed great, the performances transcendent, the direction flawless. But that word didn’t spread to me, I was working a regular job not managing a theater-related website or monitoring wherever it is early buzz about New York City theater is spread.

Fences opened, critics raved, and I recalled wanting to see it but I was too late. The tickets were already sold out.

At Maxamoo, we call the phenomenon of hearing about a great show but failing to get tickets: FENCING IT. 

Don’t fence A Raisin in the Sun. If this show interests you, get tickets now. A few tips:

  1. Tickets are advertised for $67 to $149 but that’s not entirely accurate. The real range is $67 to $275. The best tickets are classified as “Telecharge Premium Seating.”
  2. Many Broadway theaters employ dynamic ticket pricing, meaning, if the demand for tickets is high the cost of tickets increases, so acting now could save you money in the long run.
  3. There is a $10-$14 discount on some tickets during the preview period, which ends April 2, 2014.
  4. Don’t buy tickets anywhere other than Telecharge or in person from the theater’s box office. Anywhere else you’ll pay a significant premium over face value.
  5. The play is advertised as having a strictly limited 14-week performance schedule. Although the strictness of these limits is sometimes exaggerated, scheduling additional time with Denzel Washington and Diahann Carroll can’t be easy.
