Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella doesn’t go by the book. Literally.
A contemporary take on a tale by the Brothers Grimm and popularized by Disney, the musical stays (mostly) true to the beloved story’s roots.
This version, however, adds a bit of a twist: Cinderella doesn’t lose a glass slipper, at least not right away, and not in the manner you predict. The villains are not as wicked; the protagonists, much less shallow; and the plot has more substance than that of its well-known Disney counterpart.
Presented on a gliterring and elaborate set, the production includes a number of on-stage costume changes made in the blink of an eye, along with a few cleverly guised transitions that combine to add a touch of magic.
If you like musicals about fairytales, then you will probably enjoy this show, too.
