Early Buzz: Cabaret

Roundabout Theatre Company is reviving the successful 1998 revival of Cabaret, including directors Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall, and Alan Cumming, who will reprise his Tony-winning role as the Emcee. Michelle Williams (Film: Brokeback MountainBlue Valentine) will star as Sally Bowles in her Broadway debut. Roundabout is transforming Studio 54 into the Kit Kat Club, the seedy German club where the story unfolds.

Cabaret, with music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, is set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis rise to power. It relays the tumultuous relationship between Sally, an American cabaret singer and Cliff, a young British writer. It premiered on Broadway in 1966 and was an Oscar-winning film directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse.

Previews begin March 21, 2014.

The tickets for this show are pretty expensive. One tip if you’re between 18 and 35 is to signup for Hiptix, Roundabout’s ticket club for young patrons. It’s free to join. Hiptix tickets for Cabaret are $25.
