IRT Theater

IRT, formerly known as the Interborough Repertory Theater, established in 1986, describes its mission as supporting independent theater artists and building community through facilities, programs, and education.

IRT programs include:

  • The 3B Development Series, established in 2007, which provides development residences to artists (past residents include Young Jean Lee, Reggie Watts, and Mike Daisy);
  • The Archive Alliance, a joint program with The New Ohio Theatre, which provides two-year residencies to theater companies, including rehearsal and performance space; each company develops a single show, from readings and workshops to a week-long presentation at the Ice Factory Festival, and a fully staged production at the New Ohio Theatre at the end of the residency; and
  • The Westside Experiment, which provides classes and mentoring to teens aspiring to become performers. Students are paired with professional experimental theater artists to learn about the craft of making experimental theater and to jointly mount a production at IRT.
