Early Buzz: The Mysteries
This spring Drama Desk nominee Ed Sylvanus Iskandar directs The Flea Theater’s The Mysteries, a radical interpretation of the Bible.
The six-hour long epic is a collaboration among 48 writers commissioned by artistic director Jim Simpson and producing director Carol Ostrow. The playwrights include Tony Award and Academy Award winners and nominees David Henry Hwang, Craig Lucas, Billy Porter, José Rivera, and Jeff Whitty; Maxamoo favs Johnna Adams, Qui Nguyen, Kimber Lee, A. Rey Pamatmat, and Lloyd Suh, and a whole bunch of other people that we’re excited to see for the first time.
The Mysteries tells the Bible’s entire history of man’s salvation in 50 episodes from the fall of Lucifer to Judgment Day. Each performance includes two intermissions. The ticket price includes dinner and dessert.
The Flea offers sharply tiered ticket pricing. Tickets for The Mysteries start at $15 (that includes dinner!) and range to VIP tickets for $125, which include free drinks and the best seating locations.
