Lesser America
Lesser America was founded in 2010 by Daniel Abeles, Jonathan Blitstein, Nate Miller, and Laura Ramadei after the four collaborated on a play called Keep Your Baggage With You At All Times, written by Blitstein. It was directed by Daniel Talbot and Blitstein won a 2011 New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Original Full-Length Script for the production.
In 2011, Theater for the New City granted Lesser America a residency and the company has produced all of its subsequent work there. The company’s mission statement states, “Lesser America is pop theater. We are an ensemble of renegade artists dedicated to smart, quality entertainment that puts the audience first, fulfilling the promise of affordable, accessible theater for the 21st century.”
