Naked Darrow

Naked Darrow is a one-man play that follows an aging Clarence Darrow, the famous defense lawyer in the Monkey Scopes trial, at the beginning of the end of his life.

It examines Darrow’s personal and legal lives, highlighting the moments that meant the most to him, including two marriages, the births of his granddaughters, and his civil and workers’ rights cases.

Though in the play Darrow is beginning to lose his memories he relives as he loses them in a 90-minute emotional visit with this extraordinary man. Gary Anderson, playwright and actor, does the role and the man great justice with thoughtful dialogue and visceral acting.

REVIEWS

NY Theater Wire

The real credit for this production belongs to Anderson and Anderson alone. A one-man work can be a tough sell, but Anderson creates a world that feels peopled with characters even though his Darrow occupies the stage by himself. His performance is engaging, keeping the audience’s focus on him and his narration, which serve as the only action for the drama.
