Every Day A Visitor, originally a short story by Richard Abrons that won a National Magazine Fiction Award in 1981, comes to Theatre Row in a new production by New Federal Theatre.
Adapted for the stage by the same author, Every Day A Visitor is set in a Jewish retirement home filled forgotten parents and grandparents who daily face the afflictions and indignities of old-age, all exacerbated by boredom. To break the monotony of their routine, the residents impersonate famous people. This bout of creativity and plain fun rejuvenates the residents and revitalizes life at the once gloomy home.
Demonstrating that advanced age need not equal depression and lethargy, Abrons’ play is cheerful, sharp, and deeply compassionate.
