The Wild Project
Planted in Manhattan’s East Village, The Wild Project is the most eco-friendly theater in New York City. Constructed almost entirely with sustainable material, it features a rooftop garden that houses not only lush flora, but also a patch of solar panels that harnesses some of the electricity used to power the venue (the rest of the energy expended by the theater is derived from renewable wind sources).
The brainchild of green roof experts Alive Structures and architects from Thread Collective, this quaint arts locale preserves the character and history of its building, while simultaneously supporting the advancement of design rooted in sustainability. For more information about the sustainable design and pictures of The Wild Project’s rooftop visit Inhabitat (a website about sustainable design and technology).
Every year, The Wild Project hosts an array of festivals, including Clubbed Thumb‘s Summerworks festival of new plays, The Current Sessions‘ contemporary dance series, Between the Seas‘ festival of Mediterranean performing arts, All Out Arts’ Fresh Fruit Festival of LGBT Arts and Culture, and Poetic Theater Productions‘ Poetic License, a festival of new poetic theater.
Partial Comfort Productions is the resident theater company at The Wild Project.
