Early Buzz: Natasha Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812
Pre-opening there is a lot of buzz around Natasha Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, an electro-pop opera based on Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace.
This production had a brief but very popular and sold run at Ars Nova last year. Now with some heavyweight backing (the producer of Sleep No More, among others), it’s launching a summer long run at a specially constructed Russian supper club in the Meatpacking District. The tickets aren’t cheap but they include dinner and a drink.
Written and composed by Dave Malloy and directed by Rachel Chavkin. The first performance is May 1.
