Far From Heaven
A musical adapted from Todd Haynes’ 2002 movie of the same name, Far From Heaven begins previews at Playwrights Horizons next week. The early buzz is good and ticket availability is already running low.
Far From Heaven is set in Connecticut in 1957. It tells the story of what’s really going on with a seemingly perfect suburban household. It hits all of the taboo topics of the day: race, sex (straight and gay), fidelity, abuse, and divorce.
The production touts a high profile cast and production team, including actress Kelli O’Hara (Nice Work If You Can Get It and South Pacific) and director Michael Greif (Rent and Next to Normal).
In addition, musical theater fans are giddy over the casting of actor Steven Pasquale in this production. He is primarily known for TV roles (Do No Harm and Rescue Me) but is popular in musical theater circles for generally being very charming and originating the role of Fabrizio in The Light in the Piazza.
P.S. The potential for extensions is limited because Mr. Pasquale is appearing in The Bridges of Madison County starting August 1 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
