Elevator Repair Service’s ARGUENDO – Location, Tickets, Reviews
Update: September 25, 2013
ARGUENDO from acclaimed theater company Elevator Repair Service opened Tuesday, September 24th at The Public Theater to warm reviews with loads of bad puns about nudity. The show is a verbatim performance of the U.S. Supreme Court oral argument in Barnes v. Glen Theatre, a case challenging Indiana’s ban on public nudity, and the show includes a dose of full frontal male nudity, thus the puns.
In a counter-intuitive twist it appears to be more popular with non-lawyers (at least according to our poll of three lawyers who saw it and didn’t like it, as compared to the non-lawyer critics who mostly enjoyed it).
Recommended if. . .
- You enjoy legal-themed art and entertainment;
- You’re a law student, not yet a lawyer;
- You have a soft spot for verbatim theater; OR
- You’ve enjoyed Elevator Repair Service productions in the past; AND
- You don’t get motion sickness easily, some rapidly shifting visual projections while entertaining are nausea inducing for some.

From the acclaimed team that created Gatz (a verbatim, 6-hour performance of The Great Gatsby) comes ARGUENDO, a verbatim performance of the U.S. Supreme Court oral argument in Barnes v. Glen Theatre, a case challenging Indiana’s ban on public nudity under the First Amendment.
Note, ARGUENDO contains nudity.
