FringeNYC: The Storytellers – Location, Tickets, Reviews
The Storytellers adapts for a minimalist stage suspense and mystery tales from Saki, W.W. Jacobs, Robert W. Service, and Edgar Allen Poe, some of the greatest storytellers that ever lived. The most well-known of the stories is Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart. The performances are accompanied by original music from Louis Aquiler, which contributes to the show’s mystical ambiance. This especially applies to Service’s The Cremation of Sam McGee, which has been musically adapted in a quasi-Western ballad style.
The space at the CSV Flamboyan is round and though there are only five actors, they occupy the space very well and efficiently. The performers have amazing chemistry, which greatly contributes to how enjoyable the piece is. There are no mics at this venue, so snag a seat near the front and you won’t be straining to hear. Recommended for those who especially like storytelling.

Where this production fails in some ways to draw in the listener it succeeds in creating an eerie ambiance throughout the evening. Fans of storytelling and the macabre should make a point to catch this one.
