NYMF 2013: Volleygirls – Location, Tickets, Reviews
Volleygirls is a new musical about a troubled high school girls volleyball team. Despite my best cynical efforts to remain immune to the parable of a sports-team-overcoming-adversity I was tearing up and smiling along with everyone else at the end of this show. Somehow stories about teamwork, dedication, and triumph over hardship in sports (à la Rudy, Hoosiers, The Mighty Ducks and the entirety of The Olympics broadcast) never get old. I do believe this is first time the story’s been told with a singing, dancing women’s volleyball team.
It was one of the best reviewed shows out of this year’s New York Musical Theatre Festival. Expect that we will see it on the stage again.
