Shakespeare in the Parking Lot 2013: Cymbeline & Richard III – Location, Tickets, Reviews
Shakespeare in the Park is the most well-known outdoor theater event in NYC, but it’s definitely not the only one. It’s not even the only outdoor Shakespeare theater.
Shakespeare in the Parking Lot is Shakespeare in the Park’s casual cousin. Performed in a municipal parking lot on a collapsable set, the production, brought to the “stage” by The Drilling Company, is a community experience. Get there early to snag a seat in the chairs provided by the production or bring your own or a blanket to sit on. The show is well-attended, even in rain and wind.
Kicking off this year’s Parking Lot season is Cymbeline, one of Shakespeare’s classic romance. The love story of Imogen and Posthumus is portrayed both beautifully and humorously by this year’s team of devoted actors who are clearly having fun with the work.
The series continues with Richard III, August 1-17, 2013.
