War by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Shrew at Shakespeare in the Park, Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell & more
Diep, David, and Lindsay discuss and dissect the latest in NYC theater. But first, a big thank you for Liz Richards for creating these gorgeous and hilarious pieces of Maxamoo swag. Get your favorite Maxamooism at our store.
We discuss:
War by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins at LCT3 (2:28)
The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare at the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park (mentioned on the pod: Offscript: The Gender-Bending of the Shrew With Ed Iskandar) (16:00)
#Liberated by The Living Room at IRT Theatre (mentioned on the pod: Maxamoo Podcast on Manwatching at the Fusebox Festival) (28:58)
Rizing by Jason Tseng from Flux Theatre Ensemble (39:03)
Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell at New York Theatre Workshop (50:20)
The Back Door by Martin Creed at the Park Avenue Armory (59:42)
The Quest for the Missing Slipper by Accomplice (1:03:50)
Next, we highlight a Kickstarter by the Belarus Free Theatre for Burning Doors (1:07:47), a performance about three contemporary artists living under dictators: Pussy Riot’s Maria Alyokhina, Russian Actionist and political artist Petr Pavlensky and incarcerated Ukrainian film-maker, Oleg Sentsov. Belarus Free Theatre does amazing, aggressive, politically charged theater under extreme, oppressive conditions. They deserve our attention and our dollars!
And finally, we list what we’re looking forward to seeing next at the theater in NYC (1:10:25):
Clubbed Thumb Summerworks 2016
Universal Robots (mentioned on the pod: Our interview with Mac Rogers, the author of Universal Robots)
