Spring Comedy Check-in
Elise Czajkowski joins us for a check-in on the comedy scene. We see an eclectic array of comedy this month including big shows at large venues with headliners Margaret Cho, Craig Ferguson, and Demetri Martin. We revisit old favorites including Whiplash and a showcase of UCB improv teams. I indulge my ongoing adoration of John Early at Showgasm. And we look into the science/comedy podcast format by seeing the first American taping of Infinite Monkey Cage with Robin Ince and Prof. Brian Cox. We also highlight some upcoming shows taking place in March and April.
Demetri Martin’s The Persistence of Jokes (1:27)
Craig Ferguson’s Hot and Grumpy (5:50)
Margaret Cho (11:48)
Whiplash (21:40)
Showgasm (27:40)
UCB Improv Teams (32:30) (The Stepfathers, What I Did For Love, Air Wolf, Goat)
Infinite Monkey Cage (34:46) (Elise’s article about the show)
Upcoming Events We Recommend:
Blaria LIVE (43:00)
Women of Letters (43:23) (after we taped this episode it was announced Kathleen Turner would not be appearing at this event)
Des Bishop’s Made in China (43:47)
Asking For It (45:00)
JOHN HAMM with John Early (and if you want to follow his mom she’s @bemomce) (49:30)
Simon Amstell’s To Be Free (50:25)
Badassery Women in Comedy Conference (51:50)
Some slight corrections on this week’s episode, due to excitement: Demetri’s show was actually Important Things with Demetri Martin. John Early’s show was called Literally Me not Totally Me. Des Bishop’s show is called Made in China not Live in China.
